One of the hardest things to do as an adult is ensuring you're looking after your mental health. With so many other things to be focussing on, often you find that mental health is one of the last things people think about.

When it comes to mental health and how to live with any mental illness, people often get overwhelmed with how to handle their particular diagnosis. I know when I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, Depression, and Anxiety at the age of 20, I didn't know what to do other than take a couple of pills daily and hope for the best.

My Dr was great and helped with talking to me about things, however, I didn't go to any type of therapy, didn't talk to anyone, no one told me I needed time for myself. At the time, it took me 3-4 months to get into a therapist, once I was referred to one. Their reason “I wasn't high risk enough” despite having suicidal thoughts.

Whether it's surrounding yourself with people that make you happy or going for regular therapy sessions, you need to be sure you're doing everything you can to look after your wellbeing.

Head over to my Instagram to answer these questions:

Do you need to spend more time focusing on your mental health?

What can you do to ensure you're putting yourself first?

5 Ways to Keep Your Mental Health on The Right Path

Surround Yourself With People That Make You Happy

One of the best ways to look after your mental health is to ensure you are surrounding yourself with people that make you happy. Although you may not have control over who you are with at all times, you need to be sure you're making the most out of the times where you do have control. Whether this means spending your weekends with your friends or you visit your family as often as possible, being with the ones you love is extremely important for mental health.

Speak To A Professional When Possible

If you think you're struggling when it comes to your mental health, you might want to consider speaking to a professional. Whether this means booking yourself in for an appointment to see your doctor or going to speak to a therapist, it's important you're putting yourself first.

A therapist is a specialist in mental health. They will be able to diagnose any conditions you may be suffering from and put you on the right path to recovery. This may entail medication, different forms of therapy, or a combination of these different types of treatment. Practice Self-Care As Often As You Can

Another great way to look after your mental health is to practice self-care as often as you possibly can. Whether that means running yourself a hot bath after work or reading your favourite book before bed, self-care is a great way to improve your overall mood. Consider Changes That Will Make You Happy

If you know what is making you feel unhappy and it is something you can easily change, you might want to consider taking the necessary steps to make those changes. Whether this means undergoing breast augmentation surgery or improving your diet, you need to make sure you're doing what is best for you. If you're looking to find a breast augmentation doctor to discuss your options, you can visit this site here.

Put Yourself First At All Times

Finally, you need to be sure you're putting yourself first at all times. Whether this means saying no to events when you need to rest or taking a few days off from work to care for your mental health, putting yourself first is often the key to your happiness. Although it may take some getting used to, it's a great step to take when it comes to improving your overall well being.

*Bonus* Break the stigma

So many people think that just because you're smiling, going to work everyday, and doing things, that you're happy. What people don't see is what's going on “behind the scene” so to speak. They don't see your brain racing with all of the 100's of thoughts that you can't stop. They don't see that you'd rather just sit in the middle of a open field surrounded by woods. But you can let them see a little bit into your world. When you're having an episode, stop, remove yourself, don't apologize for what you're going through, just say “I can't today.” Leave it at that. Your mental health is nothing to be sorry about.
