Aging isn't something that women always feel comfortable with. And being a woman who can age with grace, can be even less comforting.

One huge reason being the media that photoshops already close to flawless women, picks apart celebrities, and tells you that being young is a must.

There’s ABSOLUTELY NO shame in aging, everyone does age, ya know. But that doesn’t mean you can’t take care of yourself and stay healthy as you do it. 

11 Healthy Ways Women Can Age With Grace

These 11 tips will help you not only learn how to age with grace, but they will also help you be healthy overall. Some of these I've learned from the ladies in my life, others I've learned from my medical team.

Stay On Top Of Your Medical History & Checkups

Stay on top of your medical checkups, particularly things like cervical screenings. Make a note in your calendar to stay on top of them. 

You want to record your family’s medical history. Jot down each person in your family tree and name the diagnose. For instance, if your family has a history of diabetes, jot it down. On pen and paper, jot down any information that will help your doctor monitor your health and make accurate diagnosis in the event illness occurs. Do not rely on your memory.

Make Sure You Give Copies To Children, Doctors & Any Other “In Case of Emergency” Contacts

You want to keep records of vaccine shots, or immunizations. You want to keep records of lab visits, results, conditions, and treatments you obtained. The records should be updated annually. 

Protect Your Skin With SPF

SPF is the most powerful thing you can put on your skin to protect it from the harmful rays of the environment – yes, even in winter. It won’t help to reverse ageing, but it can stop premature wrinkles and serious skin damage. 

The best that you can do to combat these culprits is to wear sunblock/sunscreen every day. The higher the SPF (Sun Protection Factor), the better. Experts suggest wearing sun block/ sunscreen with at least SPF 15 for everyday use.

If you are at the beach, or biking, or hiking, your sunblock should have a minimum of SPF 30. It’s like having 15 layers of skin every day or 30 layers of skin when you are heavily exposed to the sun.

Know the difference between sunblock and sunscreen!

Sunblock keeps the sun and uv rays from penetrating your skin. This is the best to get if you're someone who tends to be outside a lot or has a job that is outside.

Sunscreen just screens the UV rays. Think of it like the screen on a window. It let's some air in, but is made to keep the bugs out. That's what sunscreen does for your skin. It lets some sun in, but generally speaking, doesn't keep it from harming your skin.

Take Appropriate Vitamins 

The vitamins and supplements we need when we get older vary. It could be wise to speak with your doctor first. However, things like fish oil and a multi-vitamin can be good choices.

Dietary supplements are sometimes needed because as we age our diets change and we eat less. Sometimes we eat more. As our skin and digestive system starts to change, so do our vitamin levels. In order to keep these levels up we may need to take a supplement to bring that level up where it belongs to keep us happy and healthy as we age.

Not having the right vitamins can cause cancers and chronic diseases to develop. We all need to understand the vitamins that we need and how they will help keep us stay healthy and safe. In all, we have two different kinds of vitamins, which one is the fat-soluble [A, D, E, K] and the second one is the water-soluble [B, C, P].

Eat Healthy and Balanced Meals

If you really want to age with grace, you have to watch what you eat. Foods that you ate when you were in your twenties, won't necessarily be all that healthy for you when you're in your 60s or 80s. 

Remember that you should try to feast from the four food groups. Try to make sure that you only eat the amount your suppose to, and get your excise that you need to make you healthy. 

Consult a licensed nutritionist to ask how to come up with a meal plan that will help you to learn how to count your calories as well it is a big job when it comes to dieting you have to know how to count your calories and weigh your food. If you don’t you are not going to do want your suppose to do.

Find Exercise You Enjoy

Everyone knows that staying active is essential, no matter how young or old you are. Even if you’re doing something gentle, like walking or swimming. This is one of the top healthy aging tips for women, so find something you enjoy and get into a routine now.

Some awesome ideas for exercising to age with grace:

Swimming, Yoga, Pilates, Bodyweight Training, Resistance Band Workouts, Walking, Cycling, & Strength and Aerobic Classes

Prioritise Your Sleep

Sleep is another essential. Go to bed at the same time each night and get up at the same time each morning to get into a routine. Make sure your sleep environment is healthy too, as this can play a huge part in how easily you fall asleep and whether you stay asleep.

Keep Your Brain Healthy

A healthy mind is a must. Challenge yourself with puzzles and crosswords. Read. Play memory games. Keep a positive mindset. It really will make a difference!  

Give Up Bad Habits Like Smoking

Smoking is one of the worst things you can do for your health, and will age you quickly. Not to mention all of the terrible health effects! 

Take Care Of Your Teeth

Gum disease can also be linked to diabetes, strokes, heart disease and rheumatoid arthritis. Taking care of your teeth will help you to avoid serious issues and ensure you stay comfortable with a great smile as you age. Keep up regular dental appointments and take their advice, too.

Look After Your Feet

Apply foot cream, and even use a foot spa regularly. You can also purchase foot masks. The shoes you wear also play a huge part! Contact your doctor if your feet become painful, feel very hot or cold or if you have common problems like corns, bunions or ingrown toenails.

Stay In Touch With People

Loneliness prevention is key in old age, and is essential for your mental health. Stay in touch with people to keep your mental health in order. You could even attend groups, such as reading groups to remain social. It's been proven that the more you socialize, the more you age with grace. That's one of the reasons that so many women who are surrounded by their family and friends on a regular basis look so youthful.

The world is filled with support groups that will help you if need support.

The groups will give you support during the time that you need help. At group meetings, you will meet people with the same problems you have and you can give each other the support.
